What about undergraduate degrees in artificial intelligence, you might ask? While there are currently fewer programs offered in the undergraduate AI realm than in the graduate realm, bachelor’s degree programs in artificial intelligence do, indeed, exist, and can be a great choice for those who are beginning their college experience or are contemplating entering the field of artificial intelligence. Here, in no particular ranking order, we will examine some of the most popular artificial intelligence bachelor’s degrees.

Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence– Carnegie Mellon University School of Computer Science, Pittsburgh, PA

Introduced in 2018, Carnegie Mellon’s BSAI degree curriculum covers courses in math, computer science, computational modeling, statistics, symbolic computation, machine learning, ethics, and social responsibility. In order to be admitted to the program, you must have taken four years of high school English; four years of mathematics up to at least pre-calculus; one year of physics; two years of chemistry, biology or computer science; two years of a foreign language; and three electives. Bachelor of Science in Computer Science – Concentration in Artificial Intelligence & Robotics– Concordia University Wisconsin, Mequon, WI

Concordia’s BSCS-AI degree program blends technical and liberal arts courses, producing well-rounded graduates. Courses in the AI/robotics concentration include Coding III-Data Structures, Artificial Intelligence, Advanced Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning and Robotics. An internship in AI/Robotics is also required. High school courses required for admission include three units of English, two units of college-prep math, two units of natural science, two units of social studies, two units of foreign language, and five units of electives. Concordia is test-optional, meaning that SAT or ACT scores may be submitted but are not mandatory. (If your high school GPA is under 3.0, you must submit scores). Tuition for this on-campus program for the 2023-24 school year is $33,750/year, not including fees. Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence– Dakota State University, Madison, SD

Dakota State’s BSAI program began in 2021 and is offered in both online and on-campus formats. Administered by the Beacom College of Computer and Cyber Sciences, the curriculum includes courses such as Data Structures, Mathematical Foundations of Artificial Intelligence, Artificial Intelligence Tools and Frameworks, and Applied Artificial Intelligence. Admission requirements include four years of English, three years of advanced mathematics, three years of laboratory science, three years of social studies, and one year of fine arts. Those who pass Dakota State’s Smarter Balanced Assessment need not submit ACT test scores. ACT scores are required for applicants with a high school GPA of less than 2.6. Tuition and fees for the 2023-24 school year are $17,494.50 for South Dakota, Wisconsin, and Illinois residents; $18,652.20 for Minnesota residents; and $20,596.50 for non-residents. Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence – Ferris State University, Big Rapids, MI

Ferris State’s BSAI program is offered on-campus in Big Rapids. It is offered by the school’s Accountancy, Finance, and Info Systems Department, and is the only BSAI program in Michigan. Courses focus on the internet of things, cybersecurity, natural language processing, and machine learning. Admission requirements include a 3.0 GPA, ACT or SAT scores, and an essay describing why you want to be admitted to the AI program. Undergraduate tuition rates for the 2023-24 school year are $13,524 per year for U.S. and Canadian residents (not including fees). Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence – Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, IL

Offering the only undergraduate AI program in the Midwest, Illinois Tech’s BSAI program is administered in an on-campus format. Courses cover machine learning, state-space search, game playing, planning, neural networks, language understanding, and computer vision. Admission requirements include four years of math at or above pre-calculus level, four years of science including physics, four years of English, and three years of social science. ACT or SAT scores are optional, but recommended if your GPA is less than 3.5. Tuition for the 2023-24 academic year is $49,643, not including fees, housing, or food. Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence – Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, Indianapolis, IN

The BSAI at IUPUI is offered by the Department of Computer and Information Services with a concentration in Data and Computational Science, or by the School of Engineering and Technology with a concentration in Intelligent Control & Systems. Both concentrations are available to on-campus students. The School of Engineering program is more hands-on and project based, while the Computer and Information Services program focuses on theory and algorithms for data analysis, learning, decision making, and optimization. Admission requirements include 8 credits of English, 6 credits of mathematics, 6 credits of science, 6 credits of social science, and 5 credits of electives. The submission of SAT or ACT scores is optional. 2023-24 school year undergraduate tuition for in-state students is $10,448 per academic year, not including fees. Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence – Purdue University, Indianapolis and West Lafayette, IN

Purdue University’s BSAI curriculum includes the foundational courses expected in such a degree program, as well as courses that explore the connection between neuroscience, cognitive psychology, ethics, and AI. Experiential learning opportunities are available. The on-campus degree program is offered by the College of Science at the Indianapolis campus and by the College of Liberal Arts at the West Lafayette campus. Bachelor of Science in Robotics – State University of New York Plattsburgh, Plattsburgh, NY

Offered as a joint program through SUNY Plattsburgh’s Computer Science Dept. and Physics Dept., the BS in Robotics is one of the only undergraduate robotics programs offered in the US and is on-campus. Graduates will be prepared to work in programming robotics, developing industrial automation, working as a electromechanical technician, as an autonomic vehicle developer, or to pursue graduate studies. Test scores are optional, and completion of common core or Regents coursework is expected of those applying for admission.
